Kyrgyz currency is called Kyrgyz Som (KGS) which equals to 100 tyin. Notes are in denominations of 1000, 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10, 5 and 1, and 50, 10 and 1 tyin. You can easily exchange foreign currencies at commercial banks or street exchange points in Kyrgyzstan. The US Dollar and Euros are easily convertible almost all over the country. Credit cards can be accepted in some of the larger hotels in Bishkek and can also be used at banks to withdraw cash from the counter. Traveler's cheques are not always applicable, but some Bishkek banks do accept them, probably the best option to use US Dollars; commission charges are high. Cash is more recommended in Kyrgyzstan.
